Health Codes,The Conference for Food Protection is a nonprofit organization that promotes food safety standards. It works with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and U.S. Department of Health and Human Services to reduce the risk of foodborne illness, and protect consumers and the industry. The purpose of the Food Code is to protect consumers and the industry by reducing the risk of contaminated foods. It aims to protect consumers, reduce industry losses, and improve the food safety process.

Food safety

Federal and state health codes address food safety, and most include time and temperature requirements for all types of foods. Some of these include meat, poultry, fish, shellfish, and raw seed sprouts. Others include a broad range of food issues, including chemical contaminants, pesticide residues, and heavy metals. Depending on the jurisdiction, there are over 3,000 agencies with food safety responsibilities for retail food establishments. The division between health department and agriculture department authority mirrors the federal system.

The Food Code is an example of a model health code for food production and marketing. It requires manufacturers and retailers to present foods in an unadulterated and honest manner. It also requires food establishments to undergo regular inspections by the Food and Drug Administration body to make sure the quality of food is of a consistent and safe level. In addition to ensuring that food is free of harmful ingredients, the Food Code also mandates the labeling of foods.

Public attitudes toward food safety depend on a range of factors. Public acceptance of risk has been associated with government regulation, consumer perceptions of science and technology, and a preference for natural and homemade foods.
